CHICAGO, IL - March 26, 2003 - InStep Software, LLC, announced today that it has released the OPCServ product to support its eDNA real-time data historian product suite. The OPCServ is the latest addition to InStep's growing list of information management solutions. InStep sees this as the next logical step for creating solutions that make the exchange of information a simpler process.
Fully integrated with InStep's real-time infrastructure tools, the OPCServ solution implements the OLE for Process Control (OPC) data access server, a set of standard interfaces that makes interoperability possible between automation/control applications, field devices and business/office applications. Engineers and managers can use any OPC-enabled software - spreadsheets, databases, virtual instruments, etc. - to communicate with the eDNA OPCServ for data acquisition, measurement and control.
InStep president John Kalanik said, "Up to this point, we have offered an OPC real-time service to support OPC-enabled interfaces to our eDNA historian. We were delighted to be able to offer the OPCServ with this year's first release to provide a range of additional benefits to our customers." Some of those benefits include:
- The ability to move information around the factory floor and up through the enterprise without custom interfaces that are expensive to build and even more expensive to maintain
- A high performance interface that permits data exchange requests to be done once and then easily reused by HMI, SCADA, control and custom applications
- Combining OPCServ with eDNA's PushServ allows OPC compliant systems to push data through the OPCServ to all other eDNA services and thus take advantage of eDNA's analytical and presentation tools
eDNA is InStep Software's suite of information management solutions built around the core product, the eDNA data historian. The eDNA historian captures, analyzes and stores real-time data by monitoring equipment and business systems, enabling optimal decision support for increased productivity and efficiency. For more than ten years, eDNA has been the premier enterprise solution for collecting, archiving, accessing and analyzing historical and real-time industrial processing data from thousands of plant operations sources.
