InStep Stresses Open Architecture and Licensing Advantages of eDNA

CHICAGO, IL - October 27, 2003 - In light of the correspondence born out of a recent legal dispute between a historian vendor and a systems integrator, InStep Software feels the need to clarify its position on licensing in the process historian marketplace. At InStep Software, our process historian, eDNA, is sold as an open architecture platform, allowing unlimited access for users, third party interfaces, etc.

eDNA is priced fairly when it is sold and requires a very reasonable support and maintenance fee annually thereafter. If our clients or third party integrators need to interface eDNA with other applications, we do not require further license and support fees. As the industry information being disseminated this past week confirms, some historian vendors have chosen to use old business practices to protect their technology at the expense of their customers, resellers and systems integrators.

John Kalanik, InStep's president and co-founder, said "At InStep, we use open, friendly licensing practices to allow our customers to achieve maximum benefits from using our software and allow our resellers and systems integrators to offer cost effective solutions that leverage eDNA. It has always been InStep's mission to provide more value than our competitors and we have consistently demonstrated our dedication to this effort. While the legal dispute involving our industry is unfortunate, we do feel that it helps validate our long-standing licensing policy as a best practice".
